I think Tom and Bob talk about two different things. The NFC-RFID is ready to be shipped technology and can be purchased still this month. The other technology is using the radiation of your cell phone and is getting information from your phone like your phone number.

I am sure that using your phone number without you approved it will not be allowed in many countries. Even if it was allowed, many people do not want it to be used as decribed by Bob. Personally the first shop who is using my phone number that way has had my last visit, as I don't want these things. Many others will think the same way. So most companies will not use it that way as it will cause that they lose customers instead it will give them better sales.

To summarize: it are both different technologies that can work. The NFC technology will be really used in many application in the near future, the other technology will be used in other ways like tracking and tracing children in fun parks etc.

I will try and be really friendly in this reply.
We were not talking about two different things, in fact we were talking about three differnt things.

1. RFID;
2. NFC; and
3. Mobile phones within mobile cells.

I tell you what everytime I get off a plane in most countries and I turn my mobile phone on, I get a very minimum of two SMS messages about something or other and they are not from my girlfriend, a friend or business related. I did not give them permission to send me diddly squat but it happens and unless you want to live in a lead enclosure that is life.

You really should have read my post down lower which said the Mobile phone company is asking and the shop is getting information from their card holders.

Just so you get the picture mobile phones are being used to send marketing information to customers so it does happen.

Really it was not my intent to lay out the total processess and procedures required to do whatever, if you want that then I will send you the fee structure.

As with most posts you have read them and then read between the lines to ensure that you filled in the blanks.

We have cellular spam in North America too. Everyone hates it and soon it will be strictly regulated just the same as email spam and telemarketing. Invasion of privicy is a huge issue and it is what makes CAPSIAN so strong.
Back in the early 1990's, I received a telephone call from someone picking up my car phone transponder signal and trying to sell me some type of service. I hated it because it cost me money for them to try to sell me something. I live in Toronto and I was travelling through TN, USA. The long distance bill was huge.
If the consumer applies to receive a promotion, then they want the service. Anything else is just spam. This is why I like the NFC method.

Hi Tom,
The SMS stuff that I get all the time while travelling does not cost me (not like my calls which are a charged at horrible rates), when the mobile comes up on the VLR of the the operators systems they just automatically send you an SMS from some company that has paid to do so to international roaming mobiles.
Not only that my carrier from back home also send me one saying ("have a nice holiday") when I land in a lot of countries.

The point that I didn't expand on in the original post was what they want to do with the marketing is not SPAM, the subscribers/shoppers are freely joining and it is big business in a lot of Asian countries and other countries as well.

At the end of the day it is just a question of how best to do it from a business perspective and consumer acceptance view.
