is anyone currently tagging clothes at the item level?

the question is: item level rfid tag or anti-theft device or something else...

my wife recently bought a sweater that had a small tag sewn into the inside of the garment. it was in a small fabric pouch that said "remove before wearing or washing". inside the pouch was a plastic package about 3/8in. high and 1 1/2in long. it was white plastic on one side with "DR" printed on the outside. it was clear on the other side and you could see some metal pieces inside the package.

cutting into it, inside were three metal strips. two were rectangular, the third had both ends clipped at an angle.

seemed a bit over the top for an anti-theft device, but could easily be. wondering if anyone has seen or knows what this is.

    thanks in advance,
    -bryan

It could be an RFID tag used for security purposes.

As they asked the user to remove it b4 wearing, they obviously don't want to breach the privacy of the user, so there's no need to worry about invasion of privacy.

That is magnetic anti shrink (theft) tag...on a Gap family or j crew product...
Prada is doing Item level tagging in thier NY store, and some of the other luxury brands are looking to do the same. THis is more from a value add perspective than a shrink perspective.

I idea is to get the last 50 feet of the supply chain to the best efficiency that they can. If a product is in the wrong location (shelf for fashion) or there is a sale of the last product on the shelf, the product can be replenished or found easily with a smart shelf. A product not found or not replenished is a LOST SALE. The GAP had an increase of 10% in sales when they implemented RFID smart shelving. What other means of deployment would see a 10% increase in sales?

    Cheers,
